Good post, cloud9! I see a Serta 2" 4 lbs. density memory foam topper on Overstock.com on sale for $79.95 ANY size. There are thousands of WONDERFULLY positive reviews for this topper. I think I might go that route and put it over my 1" 32 ILD latex and under my Cuddle Bed Ultimate fiber filled topper. I read this statement from someone on Absolute Comfort website: "If we were to select what we feel is "the best memory foam mattress topper" we would probably choose the 2 inch 4 lb or the 3 inch 5lb. Either of these would be an excellent choice. And this is what we choose when we are asked to recommend "the best" memory foam mattress topper. But our all time best selection is a 2 inch 4 lb memory foam topper on top of a 1 or 2 inch latex topper. With this combination you get the softness of the memory foam surface and the orthopedic support of latex" Quote from cloud9 on 09/07/07 at 7:20am:
Geez, haysdb--chill out! First I want to say I have no relationship to anyone using the name cloud9 selling anything on Ebay or anywhere else. If I was selling memory foam there I wouldn't be buying retail at Mervyn's or Overstock.com. It seems like you got the runaround fron this vendor and you're coming down on me because we have the same username. That being said. I get it. Making an "informed" decision is very important to you. That's fine to a point--we use this forum to keep informed, but I'm not sure that most people want or need to be quite that "informed." In fact, I kind of doubt most people make their bedding decisions with a 4-function calculator. I bought a latex mattress kit after researching the subject to death and thought I was making an informed decision. Adjustable firmness, comfort exchanges--how could I go wrong? The only thing I didn't consider was that I just couldn't sleep on the thing without a backache. I didn't waste another two months pointlessly over-researching the next mattress I bought. Sometime you just have to back away from all the facts and concentrate on how it feels. Verysleepy just wanted to soften up a too firm mattress. It doesn't have to be rocket science. Unless, of course, you need it to be. I didn't get the impression from her post that she did. So if you want to split hairs and insist it's not visco (according to the Polyurethane Foam Association... whose members are... Tempurdedic... Sensus..?) unless it conforms to a Tempurpedic or Sensus model of what visco is "supposed" to be, or that most foam being sold is "garbage" be my guest. Frankly I don't care what the density or the ILD is, and I'm going to make a leap of pure faith and accept that it's 4 lb foam because that's what it was sold as. Sorry I left my scale and calculator at home when I went shopping so I couldn't verify it. Oh well.... What ever the hell it is, it's wonderfully comfortable and that's all that's really important to me, so I am recommending it on that basis. Some people just want comfort. Not calculus. And yeah, I did offer alternatives to latex, Tempurpedic, Sensus--which some people don't like specifically because of their temperture sensitve and slow recovery factors. My conclusion was that the memory foam toppers available from places like Bed & Bath & Beyond, Overstock.com or Mervyn's would probably be just fine, mainly because I have read posts from owners of Tempurpedic and Sensus products who have complained that they began sagging in a few years, so why pay a premium for it? |

I bought the Select Sleep 10,000 in a med/firm/xtra configuration. I'm glad I got it split as I was able to try more combinations of layers. I found that the med/firm/xtra gave me lower back pain. The fact that I had back pain was quite interesting as I've never had back pain from a mattress in my entire life. I am primarily a side and stomach sleeper. I am 6'4 and weigh around 185. The latex cores rest on a slat foundation. I found that having medium or firm as the bottom layer will make the whole bed soft regardless what you put on the top layers. I guess this is what people refer to when they talk about the foundation. I still have few weeks to switch out a layer. I will likely go with a firm/xtra/xtra configuration. Initially I thought that this would have been way too firm but for me it's what felt the most comfortable and gave the most support. I found myself having lower back pain with some of the configurations. Here's what I tried: firm/xtra/xtra - this was one of the early configurations I tried and at the time thought it was rock hard until I tried it again and had a different opinion, I will likely go with this firm/firm/xtra - not quite as firm as above, good support though and no back pain med/xtra/xtra - liked this for awhile but decided it was just a tad too soft, probably my second choice med/firm/xtra - not enough support, lower back pain firm/med/xtra - was good initially, ended up with lower back pain a few days in firm/xtra/med - too soft, lower back pain med/xtra/firm - too soft, lower back pain med/firm/firm - too soft, lower back pain |

| The point has been well made. please don't forget that experts, sales reps, store owners, distribs, etc DO post here and except for a recent 'reviewer' [no longer posting], full disclosure is the rule rather than the exception. Its good to hear from experts like Steve H, well researched posts from haysdb, updates from current or past owners, and anything to provide additional information for those in search of that good night's sleep. There are expensive mattress mistakes to be made, and everyone is welcome advertise. I see no hidden 'agenda', just openess and a forum of opinion and information, and I see the advertising here as a very different area. |

I have no problem with paid advertising on a website, but don't really think you can say something like this with any certainty, because you don't know who someone may be posting on here. This looks suspicious to me, now... "FloBeds has NEVER promoted their products in the forum; not once." And I also notice that at least one FloBed user is actively trying to talk people out of latex mattresses without kits and making statements that aren't 100% accurate, even using condescending sarcasm if we aren't interested, so that looks suspicious, too. Sorry. I'm just shopping for a mattress, I have no interest in any of these companies, financially or emotionally. I'm a pretty savvy shopper, though, and have been on the internet boards since the days when we had to pay by the minute, so wasn't born yesterday. |

That's what I was considering to get for the latex mattress that I am putting together right now: http://cgi.ebay.com/ZIPPERED-VELOUR-COVER-for-8-KING-MEMORY-FOAM-MATTRESS_W0QQitemZ120153700910QQihZ002QQcategoryZ20479QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem It looks exactly like I am on our S. memory foam mattress from the store. And I know that it is flexible and it does not interfere with the latex feel. I am not so sure about the wool pad, being quilted and not flexible if it would not interfere with the softness of the mattress. I am considering adding one later, though. I surely hope it will keep it together because the topper is sliding off the main core... Plus the kids started to pull the sheet out and punch and rip little pieces of the latex foam...it's a whole history! So, today, we finally put the mattress case from e-bay, on! I washed it first at "sanitary" and it came out beautiful. It felt tight in the beginning, I didn't think we're going to fit the two pieces of latex together in there, BUT we made it! Being so flexible, it allows you to pull on it, like a t-shirt and be able to close the zipper. So far I'm very happy; it looks very similar with our previously bought Sealy memory foam king mattress. And it does not interfere with the latex feel. That's what I wanted. Later maybe I will add a layer of wool in the case, as well. We'll see! For a 35$ purchase, it does the job great! Hope this was helpful! On another note, we've been in vacation for a few days, and now everything changed around here! I wish these old posts would go to the new forum, so we can easily access them. It did take me a while to get here. And how come we didn't get any e-mail, that the forum is changing?! |

| This thread is over two years old, but the subject matter is as relevant today as it was two years ago so I thought I would give it a bump. I have never heard hint of anyone "promoting" FloBeds for any other reason than they think they are a good company. |

Sure . . someone else should know exactly what configuration will satisfy your personal comfort preferences . . perhaps through mental telepathy! Based on a previous post, you are already on a comfort exchange, so have already made 2 selections. You have also been reading this forum for around 2 months, based on your join date . . so you should already be knowledgeable about the properties of different components such as latex and memory foam. Empower yourself with research . . never just be "sold" something! Mattress selection is pretty much a trial and error process . . perhaps your expectations are unrealistic. |

I just spotted these mattress reviews and the Spring Air Nature's Rest Latex was at the top of the list, if you want to check it out. http://www.whatsthebest-mattress.com/reviews You might also look at the Sealy Latex or Reflexion posts with "Beach" in the name, there are several. Those have been discontinued, but they have some new "Spring Free" mattresses out that are similar. |
